Format & Rules

The Salesforce Golf Challenge is a highly competitive one day charity driven golf event. Corporate teams participate in an 18 hole two net best ball round followed by the $100,000 Shoot Out. The MGA monitors all play as well as handicap verification. Teams will be comprised of five players each.

The Shoot Out is comprised of FOUR SKILL CHALLENGES which determine the ultimate winning team:

CHALLENGE ONE – 18 Hole Knock Out
  • All teams compete in an 18 hole two net best ball format round and the top 8 teams qualify to compete in the Skill Challenges.
  • The winning team of the afternoon round will automatically advance to Challenge Four – “Alternate Shot.” Teams 2-8, by order of finish with the lowest net scores, will advance to Challenge Three – “Chipping Contest.”
CHALLENGE TWO – Gag-a-thon
  • Remaining teams who did not qualify by having the 8 lowest net scores in the 18 hole round will have one last chance to compete in the Skill Challenges.
  • One team will win a wildcard to advance to Challenge Three – “Chipping Contest” by winning the sudden death putt-off from 3 feet, 6 feet, and 9 feet.
CHALLENGE THREE – Chipping Contest
  • Teams 2-8 from the afternoon 18 hole round along with the wildcard winner from the Gag-a-thon (total of 8 teams) compete in the Chipping Contest where the 4 teams who chip closest to the pin will advance to Challenge Four – “Alternate Shot.”
CHALLENGE FOUR – Alternate Shot
  • The top 4 teams from the Chipping Contest along with the winner of the 18 hole round will compete in alternate ball format playing the 9th hole.
  • The 5 teams will play out the hole in their pre-determined rotation. The 2 teams with the lowest scores will replay the 9th hole from the same starting point while staying in the pre-determined player rotation. The lowest scoring team will be the Salesforce Golf Challenge champions.

  • All ties, when necessary will be decided by an MGA pre-determined shot contest.

Governance

MGA Oversight

The MGA will be the official ruling body of the Challenge. The MGA will commence the tournament with reading of the rules, which will also be further addressed prior to the Shoot Out. As the official ruling body of the Challenge, they monitor rules of competition, verify player handicaps, provide course marshals and are the official scorekeepers. At the conclusion of play (18 holes per team), team captains will be required to turn in their team’s scorecard to the designated MGA official. Scorecards must be completed with two team player signatures and must be legible in order to be considered official.

USGA Handicap Index

The MGA requires that all Salesforce Golf Challenge participants provide their MGA/GHIN numbers and home club name to van Dillen Partners prior to the tournament. The MGA will authorize and then assign each player a Course Handicap. If a player does not belong to a GHIN association, they must provide their home association and home club name so MGA officials can verify participants’ Index. All players will be capped at a Course Handicap of 16 for Men and 18 for Women. (Players with a higher Index can still participate but must play to maximum Course Handicaps.) September Indexes will be used and play will be at 90 percent of the course Handicap for men and 95 percent for women. Players without an established Handicap Index can participate but will play to a Course handicap of 12 for men and 14 for women.

USGA Amateur Status Guidelines

In an effort to protect the amateur status of Challenge participants, van Dillen Partners works closely with the United States Golf Association (USGA). All players must sign a waiver at registration the morning of the tournament. In accordance with the Director of Amateur Status, and Rules of Golf USGA: “All players, both amateurs and professionals, are not eligible to receive any cash prizes. All cash prizes will be awarded by the sponsors to the suggested charities. In lieu of accepting prize money, you may suggest a specific charity to receive the money from van Dillen Partners. Monies will be distributed by Schwab Charitable Fund – van Dillen Partners Fund.”
